COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
THERMOMETER, SELF-INDICATING, LIQUID-IN-GLASS, POCKET TYPE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item
Description (CID) for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE.
1.1 Abstract. This commercial item description covers a thermometer, graduated in degrees
Fahrenheit, for the determination of atmospheric temperatures during surveying operations.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
2.1 Thermometer. The thermometer (see figure 1) shall be as specified herein and shall be provided with a protective case when specified (see 6.2).
2.1.1 Stem. The stem shall be a magnifying type with a broad white or other contrasting strip at the back to facilitate accurate reading of the thermometer. The stem shall be annealed, and formed to maximize the angle at which it can be read and the apparent width of the thermosensitive fluid column. The top of the stem shall be a button configuration, formed to fit into and be retained by the case. To ensure interface with existing cases, the thermometer shall not exceed the dimensions shown in figure 1.
2.1.2 Bulb. The bulb shall be cylindrical in shape with its diameter shall be less than that of the stem. The bulb, as the reservoir of the thermosensitive fluid shall be sufficient to accommodate the fluid column adjusting to changing temperatures.
